On June 27, 2025, I had an accident in my 1954 Tri-Pacer-135. On takeoff from a wet grass field, I encountered a really wet spot and the airplane started hydroplaning sideways, 90 degrees to the direction of travel. When the leading (left) tire hit drier ground, it dug in, the airplane flipped.
The left wing is damaged. I’m not sure about the right wing. The tail fin is damaged. Although the throttle had been closed moments before the flip, a runout test shows crankcase damage from the prop strike.
The airplane is in South Alabama at Shields Airport, AL55. For additional information, please contact William Bruce at Will@WilliamBruce.org.
